Mars, December 31, 2007482 viewsMars on New Year's Eve 2007. Stacked and sharpened in Registax using gaussian wavelets, sharpened and touched up in PixInsight, final work in Photoshop. This was the first shot of the night and the seeing deteriorated from there.

NGC 7331 - New processing479 viewsNGC 7331 - Spiral Galaxy in Pegasus, Maxim DL, CCDStack, Photoshop. What a difference a year makes. With just a little change in technique, a much better result than my other NGC 7331.

M33 with Hydrogen Alpha474 viewsM33- The Triangulum Galaxy, data captured on September 20 and 26, 2008, and September 19, 2009. This is the same image as my earlier M33 Over Two Years but has had 90 minutes of Hydrogen Alpha added to the red in the image. Captured and calibrated in Maxim DL. Aligned and combined in CCDStack. Primary processing in PixInsight with touch-up in Photoshop.

Moon, Venus, and Jupiter over Palomar468 viewsThe Moon, Venus, and Jupiter ride in the sky above Mount Palomar. This is a day before the conjunction which I missed due to clouds in Los Angeles.

NGC 3628 -- Spiral Galaxy in Leo463 viewsNGC 3628, a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Leo, and one of the Leo Triplet galaxies. This image is my first CCD image from Lake Riverside. The conditions -- high wind that came up after midnight -- limited the total exposure time. Processed in Maxim DL, CCD Stack, PixInsight, and Photoshop.

NGC 2403 -- Spiral Galaxy in Camelopardalis v2462 viewsNGC 2403 -- Spiral Galaxy in Camelopardalis. Image reduction in MaximDL, alignment, sigma clip, and stacking (mean) in CCDStack, color combine and balancing in PixInsight, gradient removal in Photoshop. This is a revised processing of this data. The original processing really did not work well. This is marginally better. The underlying problem is with the data.

NGC 457 -- The Owl Cluster461 viewsNGC 457 -- The Owl Cluster, and open cluster in Cassiopeia. Processed in February 2006 in Maxim DL and Photoshop. Gradients were removed with Russ Croman's Gradient Xterminator. I also applied Don Wade's star color enhancement techniques. The original exposures were too short, so the read noise was a factor in the final images. It also appears that the color images are not perfectly aligned, or the red in the lower left of each star may be due to the extensive color enhancement.

M1- The Crab Nebula457 viewsM1 -- The Crab Nebula. Supernova remnant in Taurus, January 7, 2005, Maxim DL, Photoshop, HaR included as luminance. This object clearly needs longer focal length. It is too small at 545mm/f5

Mare Nectaris456 viewsMare Nectaris, taken a few days after the new Moon. Fracastorius crater is the large crater at the bottom of the mare, crater Rosse is the small crater in the mare. This is a mosaic of two shots, combined in Photoshop and processed in PixInsight. The image was upsampled by 2x at the start of processing. Selection of the resampling algorithm was critical -- bilinear and even bi-cubic bi-spline added noise, cubic bi-spline had its problems but was the best overall.
